Our Coaches
Mary-Anne Bittner
Coach
coachmaryanneb@gmail.com
My name is Mary-Anne Bittner and I am one of the Coaches of the Edson Orcas. As a youth I was a competitive swimmer for over 10 years. I then turned swimming the sport into coaching the sport. I have been coaching with the Edson Orcas since 2017. Off deck I work full time as a Programs Manager for local daycares. I believe coaching the kids is 80% in the water and 20% out of the water. I am very passionate about the role I play as a coach and look forward to working with each and every one of you.
Samantha Leggett
Coach
samalegg@gypsd.ca
Howdy! My name is Coach Sam, but I'm sure lots of you know me as Mrs. Leggett. When I'm not helping out on the pool deck, my side job is teaching Math and Science at Parkland High School. I love all sorts of water sports including scuba diving, kayaking, and of course lifeguard competitions, but competitive swimming takes the cake! I started competitive swimming when I was 5 and have spent my whole life around the water in some capacity. I am so excited to be joining the Orcas and am looking forward to helping athletes improve their personal bests while having tons of fun!
Addison Cardinal
coach
My name is Addison and I have been a competitive swimmer for 6 and a half years and had a blast with the club. I also am pursuing my love of horses. I also enjoy hiking, camping and fishing with my family. With one year left of high school I am looking forward to post secondary school to become a Veterinary Technician. I am excited for my third year position as a Junior Coach because I think that being a strong swimmer is an important asset for everyone and you might as well have fun and make some amazing memories and friends along the way. Go Orcas!
Tyler Shaw
Assistant Coach
tyler.shaw@gov.ab.ca
My name is Tyler Shaw. I am one of the assistant coaches helping on deck. I was a competitive swimmer for many years in Ontario. I love being outdoors, fishing or swimming in lakes and oceans all over the world with my family. When I’m not helping with the Orcas, I work as Forest Officer, fighting forest fires in the summer and walking around the forest all winter. I look forward to helping everyone enjoy swim club as much as I did when I was younger.
Breanne Cunningham
Coach
coachbreannec@gmail.com
Hi! I am coach Breanne. My love for swimming started when I joined a competitive team at the age of 7. I was lucky to swim for many teams in Alberta and some in BC, but finished my last few years here in Edson swimming for the Orcas. I am married with three children, my daughter swims and the two boys play hockey. When I am not at the Rec. centre I love to be at home with our horses and cows or out on the lake. My favourite part of coaching swimming is working on perfecting technique and swimming efficiently.
Emery Cardinal
coach
My name is Emery, and I am a competitive swimmer for the Edson Orcas. I have been swimming for 7 years. I joined the club because I was bored after school and it gave me something to do. After swimming for a little while I figured out that my passion for swimming was too big to stop so I continued swimming for the club. In my spare time I like reading and spending my time outside. I want to coach because I love working with kids and showing them new skills and getting to know them and their strengths.
Kaleb Johnston
coach
kalbewjohnston@gmail.com
My name is Kaleb and I have been swimming with the Orcas for 8 years. This will be my first year coaching and I am looking forward to helping the new swimmers enjoy swimming as much as I do. When I am not in the pool, I spend my time mountain biking, playing soccer, badminton and doing track and field.
Laura Kulyk
Assistant Coach
laurakulyk@gmail.com
Hi! I’m coach Laura. I’m new to the swimming world but fell in love with it just as quickly as my daughter did when she joined the swim club! I love working with young people and seeing kids grow. When I’m not at the pool you can find me playing music with my kids at home. I’m excited to be a part of the Orcas this year and see all of the swimmer's progress in so many ways! And of course I can’t wait to have fun along the way.
